Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or rouge AOC 2023 by Charlopin Tissier

Colour & Appearance
Deep ruby red with violet reflections, slightly hazy – a youthful, unfiltered Burgundy that already reveals its authenticity in the glass.
Nose
Wild and exuberant, this 2023 initially presents itself closed, then opens up with wild raspberries and blackberries of remarkable purity. These are joined by caramelised beetroot, undergrowth and Provençal herbs such as thyme and rosemary. Fine nuances of cinnamon bark and white pepper lend the bouquet additional complexity.
Palate
Here the youthful vigour of an authentic Burgundy reveals itself: tannins and acidity still demand attention, gripping firmly – exactly as it should be at this stage. The structure is refreshing and lively, carried by herbal aromas, peppery nuances and a fine salinity that lends the wine depth and drinkability.
Finish
Medium length with present fruit and lingering spice notes, the tannins still ring through somewhat grippily – this wine has development potential.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come predominantly from organically farmed parcels on the Côte de Nuits, that legendary strip of Burgundian soil renowned for its mineral, concentrated Pinots.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, completely destemmed. After cool pre-fermentation and spontaneous fermentation, the wine matures for 18 months on fine lees in 228-litre barriques (predominantly François Frères) with less than 20% new wood – a respectful élevage that doesn’t mask the fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce, grilled tuna or mushroom risotto. Also a delight with mature Comté or Époisses.
Special Features
An honest, unadorned Burgundy entry from a respected producer – organic, artisanal, authentic. Those with patience will be rewarded in 2-3 years with additional finesse.
