Wine Description for Meursault „Les Grands Charrons“ AOC 2023 by AS Sirugue-Noëllat

Character
A classic Meursault from the still-young 2023 vintage, which promises the typical opulence and minerality of this legendary appellation. „Les Grands Charrons“ lies in the southern part of Meursault and benefits from the characteristic chalky soils that give the wine its precise structure. At 14% alcohol, this wine displays the concentrated ripeness of the vintage without losing Burgundian elegance. AS Sirugue-Noëllat, traditionally better known for red wines from Vosne-Romanée, demonstrates with this white wine their craftsmanship beyond their home appellation.
Terroir & Origin
Meursault forms the heart of the Côte de Beaune and has stood for centuries as a producer of great white wines from Chardonnay. „Les Grands Charrons“ is a Lieu-dit vineyard site that, whilst not enjoying Premier Cru status, nonetheless benefits from the ideal aspect and the marl-limestone soils that have made Meursault famous. The 2023 vintage brought to Burgundy, following a challenging spring, a warm, dry summer that produced concentrated, ripe grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay finds perhaps its most perfect expression in Meursault – rich and textured, yet never heavy. The vinification presumably follows Burgundian tradition: fermentation and ageing in oak barrels, with the wood integrated and supportive rather than dominant. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, which gives it creamy texture and complexity. The dry orientation (minimal residual sugar) underscores the classic style.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Meursault demands cuisine that does justice to its substance: lobster with butter, pan-seared scallops, Poulet de Bresse à la crème or a mature Comté. Also turbot in champagne sauce or calf’s sweetbreads harmonise beautifully. The wine’s minerality also pairs well with oysters, whilst its fullness is not afraid of more robust preparations.
