Wine description for Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru „Sous Frétille“ blanc AOC 2022 by Charlopin Tissier

Colour & Appearance
Intense straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a Chardonnay that already announces its concentration and maturity visually.
Nose
Captivingly elegant and multi-layered: lemon oil and pear cream meet delicately roasted nuts and a fine orange note. These are joined by a delicate smoky nuance, a hint of nutmeg and vanilla. The oak integrates itself already with remarkable finesse – an aromatic interplay that masterfully combines restraint and complexity.
Palate
Here the true class of this Premier Cru reveals itself: creamy and sensual in texture, with a subtle buttery quality reminiscent of great white Burgundies. The oak and cinnamon spice from the barrel is present, but never dominant. With air contact – decanting is strongly recommended – the wine increasingly develops drive and tension. The acidity becomes agile and lively, the aromas intensify continuously.
Finish
Impressively long and precise. The wine maintains the balance between creamy fullness and mineral freshness right to the end, with the citrus notes and subtle oak spice lingering elegantly.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Sous Frétille (10.25 ha) lies almost at the hilltop in direct proximity to the legendary Corton, with south-easterly exposure. The sun reaches the vineyard only at midday, which provides cooler conditions – an advantage in warmer vintages like 2022. Charlopin Tissier cultivates only 0.11 hectares of old vines here.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay from old vines. After destemming, spontaneous fermentation takes place, followed by 16 months of ageing on fine lees in cigar-shaped 400-litre barrels (mainly Atelier Centre France) with 75-100% new oak – an ambitious approach that works perfectly here.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Œuf à la dijonaise, smoked Charolais fillet with creamy mustard ice cream or a classic leek tart (poireaux) harmonise beautifully with the creamy texture and spicy complexity of this wine.
Special Features
A Premier Cru that turns its cooler vineyard site and modern oak use to its advantage. Definitely decant for optimal enjoyment – the wine rewards you with steadily increasing complexity in the glass.
