Wine Description for Nit de Nin „Mas d’en Caçador“ 2021 by Familia Nin Ortiz

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby red with violet reflections, medium intensity. The clarity already reveals the meticulous work in the vineyard.
Nose
Seductive and complex: wild strawberries, raspberries and pomegranate meet Mediterranean herbsthyme, rosemary and a hint of lavender. Beneath that, slate minerality, red peppercorns and a touch of cistus. The nose is cool and precise, remarkably restrained for its southern origin.
Palate
Elegant and tense rather than powerfully built – this sets this Priorat apart from many of its peers. Juicy cherry fruit and cranberries dominate, carried by a vibrant acidity that gives the wine freshness and drinkability. The tannins are fine-grained and perfectly integrated, never intrusive. On the mid-palate, the slate character of the terroir emerges distinctly, accompanied by graphite and vervain. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine seems positively delicate for the region.
Finish
Medium to long, with persistent minerality and saline notes. The fruit fades cool and clear, accompanied by herbs and fine spice.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Mas d’en Caçador ranks among Priorat’s most spectacular locations. Extreme steep slopes on Llicorella slate, manageable only by mule. These conditions force the vines to develop deep roots and produce wines of extraordinary precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Grenache and Carignan from old vines, farmed entirely biodynamically by Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz. Restrained ageing that puts fruit and terroir centre stage.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled tuna, lamb rack with herb crust, game birds or Pimientos de Padrón. Also a revelation with hard cheeses such as aged Manchego.
Special Features
Star oenologist Ester Nin, former cellar master at Clos Erasmus, received top ratings with her first vintage in 2003. This wine showcases a modern, elegant Priorat style – powerful, yet never heavy.
