Wine description for Barbaresco Roncagliette DOCG 2023 1500ml Magnum by Olek Bondonio

Character
Olek Bondonio belongs to the new generation of Piedmontese winemakers who approach the great Nebbiolo terroirs with respect for tradition and simultaneously with a fresh perspective. His Barbaresco from the Roncagliette vineyard site embodies the classical elegance of this prestigious DOCG – in magnum format, the wine gains additional ageing potential and development capacity. The 2023 vintage promises that balance between structure and finesse which distinguishes Barbaresco from its more powerful neighbour Barolo.
Terroir & Origin
The Roncagliette vineyard site lies in the heart of the Barbaresco region, where calcareous soils and the mild microclimate of the Langhe create ideal conditions for Nebbiolo. The hills surrounding the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso offer south-westerly exposure and maritime influences from the Ligurian Sea, which provide cooling breezes. This combination enables a long, even ripening of the grapes – a prerequisite for the characteristic combination of power and finesse.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo, the capricious queen of Piedmont, demands patience and precision from the winemaker. The late-ripening variety develops its typical aromas of red fruits, roses, tar and undergrowth only at optimal ripeness. Bondonio works according to the principles of artisanal quality production, combining traditional methods with contemporary understanding of balance and drinkability. The magnum format favours a slower, more harmonious development of the wine over the years.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Barbaresco calls for great Piedmontese cuisine: Tajarin with white truffle, Brasato al Barolo, Vitello tonnato or Bollito misto with green sauce. The wine also harmonises beautifully with aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano. The tannin structure of Nebbiolo pairs excellently with game and mushroom dishes – classic autumn cuisine that underscores the complexity of this great wine.
