Wine Description for „La Rodeda“ Velles Vinyes 2018 by Familia Nin Ortiz
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep, luminous purple-red with youthful vitality, reflecting the elevation and cool aspect of the vineyard site.
- Nose
- A captivating aromatic interplay of impressive finesse: sea lavender, violet and broom open the aromatic spectrum, before a crisp fruit palette of cherries, blackberries and raspberries emerges. The Garnacha Peluda reveals its distinctive personality with notes of liquorice, cinnamon and subtle vanilla, underpinned by tobacco, damp earth and undergrowth. Remarkably clear and fresh despite all its depth.
- Palate
- Here the true class of this wine reveals itself: unbridled freshness meets ripe substance, a unique vibration runs through the entire palate. The dark, juicy fruit possesses bite and structure, accompanied by fine salinity and elegant spice. The distinctive tannin typical of Garnacha Peluda is perfectly integrated. A pulsating wine that unites energy and deceleration in ideal balance – elegant, sensual, with extraordinary clarity.
- Finish
- Long, vital and sustained by persistent freshness, with lingering spice notes and mineral precision.
- Terroir & Origin
- A micro-terroir of just 0.6 hectares in La Rodeda, a distinctive vineyard site in Priorat. The north-facing aspect and 650 metres elevation rank among the most extreme vineyard sites in the region. The soil of black Llicorella slate and red quartzite gives the wine its mineral tension and remarkable freshness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Almost 100% Garnacha Peluda (Lladoner Pelut) from vines approximately 80 years old – a rare Grenache variant. Hand-harvested on 13 September 2018, fermentation foot-trodden in open vessels, 19 months maturation in new French barriques. Only 310 bottles produced. At 13.87% alcohol, the lowest alcohol red wine in the portfolio.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Filet Mignon Extra Gallego with finest sea salt and pepper, eight-hour braised lamb with dates, or vegetarian with Makloubé with pomegranate, dates and aubergine.
- Special Features
- The second vintage of a distinctive vineyard site, whose grapes were previously processed at Mas d’en Caçador. Establishing itself as the third great wine of the house alongside La Coma d’en Romeu and Mas d’en Caçador.
