Wine Description for Serrat de la Plane VdF 2021 1500ml Magnum by Georg Meissner

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby red with pomegranate reflections that underscore the youthfulness of this Grenache. In magnum format, the wine displays brilliant clarity and promising depth.
Nose
Seductively fresh and precise: wild strawberries and raspberries meet garrigue herbs, thyme and a hint of lavender. The wind-exposed vineyard site on gneiss weathering soil lends the bouquet a fascinating mineral component – almost like wet stone after a summer rain. Not a trace of overripeness, but rather vibrant, Mediterranean fruit play.
Palate
Here we see the hallmark of biodynamic expert Meissner: despite 14% alcohol, the wine feels remarkably light-footed and tense. The early, selective harvest preserves a crystalline freshness that Grenache rarely shows so elegantly. Red fruits dominate, underpinned by saline minerality and fine-grained tannins. The texture is silky, never heavy, with an energy that makes the wine dance.
Finish
Long, cool and impressively precise. The minerality carries far, accompanied by herbal notes and a refreshing acidity that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Grenache vines stand wind-exposed on dry, stony gneiss weathering soil in Roussillon. These harsh conditions force the vines to develop deep roots and concentrate the aromas naturally – a terroir that guarantees tension and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Grenache, farmed biodynamically. The early harvest with strict selection is the key to this style: Meissner seeks finesse over power, elegance over opulence. A counterpoint to over-extracted Roussillon red wines.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled lamb rack with herb crust, ratatouille, duck breast with cherries or aged Manchego. The minerality harmonises beautifully with tuna tataki.
Special Features
A rescue project with heart: Meissner saved this parcel from being grubbed up. The magnum format promises excellent ageing potential and makes this wine the ideal companion for special occasions.
