Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2019 1500ml Magnum by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Deep, muted violet-red, colour-dense to the rim – a wine that already reveals its concentration and power visually.
Nose
A captivating interplay of aromas that invites lingering: sweet blackberries, black cherries and cassis meld with elderberry and wild raspberries. Beneath lie earthy notes of tree bark, leather and cocoa, whilst rosemary, thyme and juniper underscore the Mediterranean origin. An aromatic profile of primal, almost animalistic intensity.
Palate
Charming and expansive, the wine unfolds with sweet cassis notes, carried by pronounced tannins and stimulating acidity. The 14.5% alcohol is perfectly integrated, lending the wine body without heaviness. The texture is dense and silky, with a primal power typical of great Mourvèdre wines from Bandol.
Finish
Long, spicy and persistent with lingering fruit and herbal notes. The fine-grained tannins promise excellent ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The vines grow in a unique amphitheatre facing the Mediterranean on clay, limestone and chalk from the Triassic at 250 metres altitude. This privileged location in Bandol, one of Provence’s most prestigious appellations, fundamentally shapes the character of this extraordinary wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache from old vines. Following three weeks of fermentation, the wines age in parcels for 20 months in barriques, tonneaux and large wooden casks of varying provenance. Eric de Saint Victor manages the estate organically with biodynamic practices.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for intense cuisine: wild rabbit with porcini risotto, pigeon with lemon-nougat hollandaise, braised wild boar or lamb shoulder with Provençal herbs. Also delightfully suited to vegetarian dishes such as crêpe with Bleu d’Auvergne and blackberries.
Special Features
The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions for this vin de garde. An impressive Bandol Rouge bearing the hallmark of one of Provence’s finest estates.
