Tasting note
Colour & Appearance
Radiant golden yellow.
Nose
A furious, exceptionally vibrant opening: sweet apricots, oranges and juicy mango meet an opulent sea of lily of the valley, roses, jasmine and elderflower. Spicy accents of ginger, coriander and a touch of caraway impart depth, whilst a cool, focused minerality tightens the bouquet.
Palate
Invigorating, juicy and immensely fresh. On the palate, a interplay of tropical exotics and clear, mineral structure unfolds. Fine tannin gives the wine backbone and grip, without ever feeling perfumed or obtrusive.
Terroir & Origin
Grown in the Pannonian climate of Apetlon at the south-eastern tip of Lake Neusiedl. The combination of hot summers and cool nights, alongside soils shaped by limestone, gravel and sand, lends this white wine its aristocratic freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Muskat Ottonel, vinified dry with a moderate 12.5% ABV. In the cellar, Heinz Velich relies on uncompromising craftsmanship with reduced yields and meticulous selection to unmask the natural typicity of the grape variety.
Food Pairings
Excellent with dishes from aromatic Asian cuisine, seared prawns, mildly spicy curry or dishes featuring fruity components and fresh herbs.
Particularities
An absolute rarity: whilst Muskat Ottonel is often harvested sweet, Velich masterfully proves here that the variety, when vinified dry, can be a profound, highly complex stand-alone wine full of breed and elegance.
