Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Garnet red with a dark core – deep and luminous, with a ruby sparkle that already promises dense Carignan fruit in the glass.
Nose
A complex interplay of dark cherries and elderberries, underpinned by bitter dark chocolate. The ethereal, balsamic top note recalls wild fennel and star anise – an aromatic shimmer that seems to capture the remoteness of the Priorat.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and silky. Fine-grained phenolics, tightly knit and dense, frame transparent red fruit with an invigorating tartness. Integrated acidity and balsamic nuances lend length and vitality.
Finish
In the aftertaste, the pristine fruit radiates as a driving retronasal impulse – fruity and tart, high-pitched, with a finish that is both firm and supple, lingering long on the palate.
Terroir & origin
At 400 metres’ altitude, on the steep, south-facing schist slopes of Torroja del Priorat, the old vines grow. The poor soils and dry climate of the Priorat force low yields – a concentration that here, however, is refined not by extraction but by infusion. Dominik Huber, the Munich native who co-founded the estate with Eben Sadie in 2004, is among the earliest harvesters in the region and counters the southern heat with biodynamic viticulture.
Grape variety & vinification
Pure Carignan from vines over 60 years old. Hand-harvested, whole-bunch fermentation for seven to ten days – without pigeage, as Huber has practised since 2009 – and eight months’ maturation in cement. The result: a Priorat that dances.
Food recommendations
A wine for roasted leg of lamb with Provençal herbs, for aubergines in a dark chocolate and tomato sauce, or a mature Manchego – dishes that do justice to the wine’s balsamic notes and herbal spice.
Special characteristics
What distinguishes the Dits del Terra is that remarkable lightness achieved through Huber’s philosophy of “infusion rather than extraction” – a red Priorat that does not lumber into the glass but captivates it with shimmering finesse.
