Wine Description for Clos Erasmus 2022 1500ml Magnum by Clos i Terrasses

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby red in the glass, of remarkable clarity and depth. The magnum bottle promises additional ageing potential.
Nose
A bouquet of breathtaking elegance and depth. Pure fruit pairs with sensual floral notes to create an intoxicating whole. Nothing feels over-constructed, and yet with each breath a new facet unfolds. With air contact, subtle earthy layers develop along with a fascinating minerality that speaks of the slate soils of Priorat. This nose is a masterclass in finesse.
Palate
Here the full magic of this wine reveals itself: powerful and energetic, yet possessed of an almost paradoxical dancing lightness. The noble, ripe tannins and the silky-smooth texture demonstrate Daphne Glorian’s mastery. Despite 15.5% alcohol, the wine never feels heavy or alcoholic – a balancing act at the highest level. The minerality runs through the entire palate like a golden thread.
Finish
Simply spectacular. Ultra-long, juicy, saline and spicy all at once – the Clos Erasmus lingers on the palate for minutes. This silky-elegant mouthfeel, which resonates for what feels like an eternity, is achieved by only a handful of wines worldwide. Truly magnificent.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in the legendary slate soils of Priorat, in barren steep vineyard sites that demand everything from the vines. Since the 2000s, the winery has worked biodynamically – a pioneering achievement in the region.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 70% Garnacha and 30% Syrah. Spontaneous fermentation in wooden vessels of varying sizes, followed by 18 months of maturation in new and used barriques as well as partly in clay amphorae – a thoughtful interplay of traditional and modern winemaking.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for special occasions: herb-crusted lamb rack, venison loin, braised ox cheeks or aged Manchego. Also a revelation with game and dark berries.
Special Features
Daphne Glorian is counted among the architects of modern Priorat. Clos Erasmus belongs to the absolute pinnacle of Spanish red wines – a cult wine with international renown. The magnum bottle offers optimal ageing conditions for the decades to come.
