Together with René Barbier and Alvaro Palacios, Daphne Glorian is one of the triumvirate of pioneers of what is today the greatness of the wines of the Priory. Clos Erasmus became famous. In the late 1980s, Glorian founded Clos I Terrasses and focussed on biodynamic cultivation from the very beginning. The Cuvée Laurel consists primarily of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is matured in used wood and amphorae.
Color
Dark purple in colour with a violet rim and opaque core, the wine shows clearly and brilliantly in the glass.
Nose
The 2021 Laurel from Clos I Terrasses is profound and, despite its youth, very generous on the nose. Dark fruit is reminiscent of cranberries and cranberries combined with dried and cooked black cherries. There is also the spice of black tea, delicately smoked duck breast and the flavour of cocoa beans, suggesting sweetness, as well as a hint of amaretto.
Changing in many layers, it makes you want to take the first sip.
Palate
Full and pronounced in its dark berry fruit but just as consistently dry, this proud Catalan from Gratallops appears on the palate. An invigorating acidity gives the quite tannic body of this wine freedom of movement as well as surefootedness and brings it into balance. Time and air bring its still untamed power into a balanced rest; ergo, open and/or decant in time before enjoyment.
