Wine Description for Pinot Freyheit 2023 by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Translucent, pale ruby red – a classic Pinot profile that promises elegance and finesse.
Nose
Enchantingly complex: pale berries and sweet cherries meet a fascinating bouquet of wild herbs – mint, box, green pepper and ivy. These are joined by earthy notes of forest floor and a seductive spice spectrum of allspice, juniper, cinnamon and a hint of frankincense. The aroma seems to float from the glass – ethereal, mystical, meditative.
Palate
Refreshingly vibrant with vibrant acidity that harmonises perfectly with delicate fruit sweetness. The tannins are refined and elegant, never intrusive. At a moderate 12.5% alcohol, a dancing, almost weightless character unfolds – this Pinot seduces through lightness and drinkability, not through power.
Finish
Medium length, with lingering spice notes and a refreshing herbal bite that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, where mica schist and limestone lend the wine its mineral tension. Biodynamically farmed – you can taste the vitality of the terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested Pinot Noir (early September), 70% as whole bunches spontaneously fermented and aged for over a year in amphorae. This ancient maturation method gives the wine its characteristic texture and freshness without masking the fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Grilled salmon, roasted duck with orange sauce, mushroom risotto, Coq au Vin, aged Comté or Gruyère. Also a meditation wine on its own.
Special Features
A Pinot that lives up to its name: „Freyheit“ as a programme. Unconventional, purist, free from oenological constraints. Heinrich proves once again that great Pinots don’t necessarily have to come from Burgundy – Burgenland can do it too.
