Wine Description for Ministre Impérial VdF 2020 by Abbatucci
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous purple with delicate violet reflections – a visual promise of Mediterranean elegance.
- Nose
- An olfactory portrait of Corsica: The garrigue fairly explodes from the glass with rosemary, lavender, thyme and pine resins. Behind this unfolds a complex interplay of fruit with mulberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and elderberry. Floral notes of hibiscus, violet and pansy lend the bouquet an almost perfumed finesse. Juniper and red pepper add spicy accents, whilst melted milk chocolate, cocoa and gently roasted coffee beans provide depth.
- Palate
- The attack surprises with silky smoothness and cool minerality – elegance rather than power. A fruity tapestry unfolds, carried by compact yet tamed tannins. The bitter compounds complement the fruit with surgical precision, whilst a saline minerality provides enormous drinking appeal. In the mid-palate the wine oscillates between compactness and delicate, almost lactic fruit nuances. White pepper and ethereal spicy notes characterise the finish – a distinctive character wine with a Mediterranean soul.
- Finish
- Long, spicy and marked by cool minerality. The peppery and ethereal notes linger persistently, leaving a saline, invigorating impression.
- Terroir & Origin
- The cuvée embodies the interplay of cool Mediterranean winds and intense sunshine in Corsica – garrigue in bottled form. The Mediterranean climate shapes every aspect of this wine.
- Grape Varieties & Vinification
- A cuvée of autochthonous Corsican grape varieties: Niellucciu, Sciaccarello, Aléatico, Morescono, Montanaccia and Carcajolo Nero. After several weeks of skin contact with regular punching down and spraying, the wine matures in conical wooden vats and small oak barrels before spending approximately one year in steel tanks.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Braised lamb shoulder filled with goat’s cheese and dried fruit, accompanied by rosemary potatoes. Equally excellent with beef entrecôte with broad beans or vegetarian gnocchi with sage butter and ricotta.
- Special Features
- The Ministre Impérial represents the qualitative pinnacle of Comte Abbatucci’s red wines – a wine that unites Corsica’s ampelographic richness and Mediterranean identity with extraordinary finesse.
