Niellucciu

Also known as: Sangiovese (Italy), Nielluccio (Corsica)

The Corsican identity of Sangiovese. Native to the island for centuries, Niellucciu produces structured red wines with fine acidity and often surprising freshness. Unlike many Italian Sangiovese interpretations, Corsican wines show a clear Mediterranean character: saline notes, maquis herbs, stony minerality. The finest sites are in the north of the island, around Patrimonio.

Abbatucci works with old Niellucciu vines in various sites and vinifies partly in amphorae. Clos Venturi shows the fresh, drinkable side of the grape variety.
