Wine Description for Diplomate d’Empire Blanc VdF 2024 by Abbatucci

Character
A white wine that captures the wild, unmistakable soul of Corsica in a bottle. The Diplomate d’Empire Blanc from the Abbatucci estate embodies everything this domaine is known for: the consistent preservation of indigenous grape varieties, artisanal precision and a deeply rooted commitment to the island. Vinified dry, it combines freshness and substance in a way that feels equally grounded and expressive.
Terroir & Origin
The Abbatucci estate is located in the Taravo Valley in south-western Corsica, one of France’s most distinctive wine-growing regions. Granitic soils, intense sunshine and the cooling influence of the sea breeze characterise a viticulture here that is scarcely comparable to the rest of France. The classification as Vin de France is not a shortcoming, but rather a statement of intent: it allows Abbatucci to draw on rare, almost forgotten Corsican varieties beyond the constraints of strict AOC regulations, varieties that barely exist elsewhere.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The blend of Vermentino (Rolle), Brustiano and Bianco Gentile is a commitment to vinophile biodiversity. Whilst Vermentino contributes aromatic liveliness and Mediterranean spice, the rarer varieties Brustiano and Bianco Gentile lend the wine depth, texture and a distinctive character that defies every cliché. Jean-Charles Abbatucci manages his vines biodynamically, which gives the wine a special purity and expressiveness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to Corsican cuisine in all its aromatic abundance: charcuterie from wild boar, Brocciu cheese or a simple herb-infused fish dish with maquis herbs. It also harmonises beautifully with grilled sea bass, seafood or a goat’s cheese salad with honey and walnuts – dishes that mirror its Mediterranean origins without overwhelming it.
