Colour & Appearance

Luminous cherry red with violet reflections and rusty inclusions – a colouration that already hints at the complexity of this Barolo.

Nose

Wild and untamed, the Lazzarito unfolds in the glass. Allspice, red pepper and juniper dominate initially, accompanied by forest floor, undergrowth and twigs. The earthy spice is bridged by beetroot, which paves the way to wild fruitiness: sweet cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant in unbridled expression. With patience, rosehip and red fruit tea develop – an aromatic profile reminiscent of Vietti’s Cerequio, yet with its own character.

Palate

Demanding and captivating in equal measure. The acidity structure is the backbone of this wine – proactive, precise, defining. Fruit and spice deliberately take a step back to allow the earthiness, the elegance and above all the terroir to take centre stage. The Lazzarito never imposes itself, appears sublime and rests within itself. A harmony that borders on perfection.

Finish

Long, soulful and vibrant. All impressions from the nose return, now with greater depth and emotional resonance. A finale that lingers.

Terroir & Origin

The MGA vineyard site Lazzarito in Serralunga d’Alba resembles a natural amphitheatre with south-west exposure. At 330 to 380 metres altitude, the Nebbiolo vines (4,500 stocks/ha) are rooted in calcareous to clayey soil. Vietti manages around two hectares of this exceptional vineyard site.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Nebbiolo, harvested in early October. Fermentation in stainless steel tank over approximately one month with permanent punch-down of the cap. Malolactic fermentation and maturation of nearly 30 months in large oak casks and supplemented in barriques. Unfiltered bottling.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Beef fillet Rossini with truffle potato gratin, poussin with Périgord truffle and salsify or surprisingly also grilled celeriac with Café de Paris butter – the Lazzarito handles both power and finesse.
