Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Brunate 2020 by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Luminous cherry red with rusty, amber-coloured reflections – typical of Nebbiolo with its translucent elegance.
Nose
A mystical, multi-layered bouquet that doesn’t reveal itself easily. Wild strawberry, sweet cherry and redcurrant merge with floral nuances and earthy beetroot. Remarkable are the maritime notes – wet chalk, salty liquorice – which lend the wine an almost mineral tension. After Eight mint, roasted coffee and Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary, sage and oregano provide balsamic depth. Playful, spicy, fascinatingly complex.
Palate
Absolutely powerful – forceful and at the same time of striking elegance. The wine displays enormous juiciness and green, fresh aromas that lend it vibrancy. The tannin is perfectly integrated, opens up on the palate and becomes increasingly silky, without ever losing its structure-giving presence. The aromatic diversity of the nose returns, the wine works with pressure, but never clumsily, and stretches into seemingly endless length.
Finish
Long-lasting, spicy and of impressive persistence. The tannins remain present, but silky, the fruity and herbal notes linger for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
The MGA vineyard site Brunate in La Morra ranks among Barolo’s historic sites. The south-facing slope at 350 metres altitude with calcareous marl in the subsoil lends the wine its characteristic minerality and elegance. The 51-year-old vines trained in Guyot provide concentrated, expressive grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 20 September 2020. Three-week fermentation in steel tanks with permanent submersion of the cap. Maturation predominantly in large oak casks, supplemented by barriques. Malolactic fermentation in wood. Unfiltered bottling for maximum authenticity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Roasted lamb shoulder with broad beans, grilled red mullet with celeriac purée and red wine jus, smoked Jerusalem artichoke with Gorgonzola and walnuts. The wine pairs well with bold flavours and complex preparations.
Special Features
A Barolo that masterfully combines power and finesse. Vietti succeeds in preserving the characteristics of the Brunate vineyard site with modern vinification – a wine with great ageing potential, yet already accessible now.
