Wine Description for Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Latricières-Chambertin from Trapet Père & Fils represents Burgundian elegance in its purest form. This Grand Cru vineyard site directly beneath the legendary Chambertin produces wines of remarkable finesse and structural complexity. The Trapet family, rooted in Gevrey-Chambertin for generations and working biodynamically since the 1990s, vinifies with minimal intervention and allows the terroir to take precedence. The 2021 vintage, despite its vineyard challenges, yielded concentrated, precise wines with natural balance.
Terroir & Origin
Latricières-Chambertin extends across just under 7 hectares on the mid-slope of Gevrey-Chambertin. The calcareous clay soils with their high limestone content impart that mineral tension and structure that distinguish these wines from other vineyard sites. The east-facing aspect ensures optimal morning sun, whilst the slope provides natural drainage. Trapet cultivates approximately half a hectare here with old vines, whose roots run deep into the rocky subsoil and express the geological signature of this privileged location.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir reveals its aristocratic side in this Grand Cru vineyard site: less opulent than powerfully elegant, with a structure built for longevity. The Trapets vinify with whole bunches, spontaneous fermentation and moderate oak usage – typically 30-40% new barrels. Maturation takes place traditionally over 18 months in Burgundian pièces. At 13% alcohol, the 2021 displays that classical restraint which characterises modern Burgundian winemaking: freshness over power, precision over extraction.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands appropriate culinary accompaniment: game birds such as pheasant or partridge, Côte de Bœuf with bone marrow, Coq au Vin in its classic preparation, or aged Comté. Duck with cherries or mushroom dishes featuring porcini also harmonise beautifully with the earthy complexity of this Grand Cru.
