Wine Description for Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru from Trapet Père & Fils ranks among the quiet greats of the Côte de Nuits – less assertive than its famous neighbour Chambertin, yet possessed of a distinctive, almost meditative depth. The estate from Gevrey-Chambertin, held in family hands for generations and managed biodynamically for years now, produces here a wine that prioritises precision and expression over opulence. At 13.0% Vol., it displays the elegance of a vintage that in Burgundy is characterised by vibrant fruit and fine structure.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Latricières-Chambertin nestles immediately south of Chambertin, at an elevation that lends the vineyard somewhat greater freshness and minerality than its more powerful neighbour. The limestone and clay-marl subsoil of the Côte de Nuits shapes a wine of structural tension and geological distinctiveness. The 2023 vintage is regarded in Burgundy as warm and early, yet it produced wines of remarkable freshness in many places – provided the winemaker worked with a delicate touch in the vineyard.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Noir is here, as everywhere in Burgundy, the sole medium – and at Trapet, one treated with the greatest respect. The biodynamic management of the vineyards, which the estate has pursued consistently since the early 2000s, aims for living soils and expressive grapes. In the cellar, Trapet favours a restrained, artisanal élevage in oak barrels, allowing the terroir to speak without overworking it. The result is a wine that rewards patience.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands companions that respect its complexity: roasted squab or venison loin with wild herbs are classic partners. It also harmonises beautifully with Époisses or a mature Comté. Those opening it young should decant it generously – or better still: wait a few years.
