Wine Description for Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
Domaine Trapet Père & Fils ranks among the most respected biodynamic producers in Gevrey-Chambertin. Their Latricières-Chambertin embodies the finesse and elegance that characterise this Grand Cru vineyard site – less powerful than the neighbouring Chambertin, yet all the more refined. The 2022 vintage presents itself with moderate 12.5% alcohol, suggesting a classical, tension-filled style that prioritises freshness and precision over opulence. The Trapets masterfully understand how to draw out the distinctive qualities of their parcels without imposing their own signature on the wine.
Terroir & Origin
Latricières-Chambertin lies directly south of the legendary Chambertin and shares its calcareous soils with a thin layer of clay and small stones. The vineyard’s position on the mid-slope ensures optimal drainage and sun exposure. Burgundy experienced a challenging year in 2022 with spring frosts, summer heat and drought, resulting in low yields. Winemakers who, like the Trapets, manage their vineyards biodynamically were nonetheless able to harvest grapes of remarkable concentration and balance. The Grand Cru vineyard site imparts to the wine that mineral depth which distinguishes it from simpler Gevrey-Chambertin wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir reveals its Burgundian soul here: complex, intensely aromatic, with silky texture. The Trapets work with spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention and a high proportion of whole-bunch fermentation, which lends the wine additional aromatic complexity and a fine-grained tannin structure. Ageing takes place traditionally in French barriques with moderate new wood content, so as not to mask the fruit. The house’s biodynamic philosophy is reflected in the vibrancy and precision that characterise all Trapet wines.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Grand Cru demands a cuisine that respects its elegance: pigeon with porcini mushrooms, venison loin with lingonberries, Coq au Vin or aged Époisses. Duck à l’Orange or Bœuf Bourguignon also harmonise wonderfully with the wine’s silky structure and delicate spice.
