Wine Description for Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Latricières-Chambertin from Trapet Père & Fils embodies Burgundian elegance in its purest form. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol content, this Grand Cru displays the finesse and precision that have distinguished the estate for generations. The Trapet family, rooted in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1870 and working biodynamically since 1995, allows the terroir to take centre stage – without oenological cosmetics, without fining or filtration. The result is a wine of crystalline clarity and vibrant energy.
Terroir & Origin
Latricières-Chambertin lies immediately south of the legendary Le Chambertin and shares its limestone-rich subsoil as well as optimal south-easterly exposure. This small vineyard site of just 7.35 hectares produces wines that appear somewhat more feminine and accessible than its great neighbour, without sacrificing depth. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by drought and heat, resulting in concentrated yet not overripe grapes – a challenge that experienced winemakers like the Trapets mastered with precise timing at harvest.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir reveals its full aromatic complexity in this Grand Cru vineyard site: from red cherries through forest floor to floral notes. The Trapets work with old vines, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts and ageing in barrels with moderate new oak. Biodynamic viticulture promotes living soils and thus wines of particular minerality and tension. The result is not a power-packed blockbuster, but a wine that convinces through subtlety, balance and ageing potential.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Grand Cru demands a cuisine that respects its elegance: game birds such as pheasant or pigeon, Coq au Vin, Bœuf Bourguignon or aged Époisses. It also reveals its full finesse with duck breast with cherry sauce or mushroom dishes with truffle. Those who enjoy it young should decant it for an hour; however, its true potential will only unfold in five to ten years.
