Zibibbo

Also known as: Muscat d’Alexandrie (France), Moscato d’Alessandria (Italy), Moscatel de Alejandría (Spain)
Zibibbo is the Sicilian name for Muscat d’Alexandrie – a grape variety that has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region since antiquity. On Pantelleria, the wind-swept island between Sicily and Tunisia, sun-dried Zibibbo grapes produce intense Passito dessert wines with aromas of orange blossom, dried figs and honey. The variety also yields fresh, dry white wines with pronounced floral notes.
The most distinctive examples come from Marco de Bartoli on Pantelleria, who vinifies both dry and sweet interpretations. Vino Lauria also produces expressive Zibibbo wines from old vines on volcanic soils.
