Wine description for Solerte IGT Terre Siciliane 2025 by Vino Lauria
- Colour & appearance
- Straw yellow with a silvery rim – the fifteen-day maceration lends it a touch more depth than one would expect from a young white.
- Nose
- A distinctive fragrance that immediately reveals Zibibbo: muscat in its most characteristic form, alongside mace, white pepper and a cool, almost chalky minerality. Pickled ginger and a hint of liquorice provide a gentle spiciness that offers a serious counterweight to the floral fruit.
- Palate
- First comes the floral side of the variety – linden blossom, muscat, orange blossom – yet its true quality quickly emerges: a subtle, almost textile structure. The ripe acidity pulses quietly in the background, leaving the stage to the citrus and yellow fruit. Dry, taut and, at just 12% alcohol, astonishingly light on its feet.
- Finish
- Chalky-cool and saline on the finish, with citrus echoes and a fine, spicy length – a finale that evokes coastal breezes rather than southern warmth.
- Terroir & origin
- The grapes grow on calcareous soils around Salemi, in the hinterland of Alcamo, some 65 kilometres south-west of Palermo. Vito Lauria cultivates his 25 hectares at altitudes between 600 and 1,000 metres – with cool nights and the breeze from the Tyrrhenian Sea taming Sicily’s heat.
- Grape variety & vinification
- Pure Zibibbo – Sicily’s Muscat – harvested in early September, fermented in stainless steel and aged with 15 days of skin contact. It is from this long maceration that the wine draws its structure: a Sicilian orange wine in a refined, restrained expression.
- Food recommendations
- The combination of aromatics, salt and structure makes it a versatile everyday wine: spaghetti con le sarde, grilled octopus, caponata, chickpea farinata or a plate of pecorino with orange blossom honey. Also a fortunate choice with Moroccan tagine or lightly spiced couscous dishes.
- Special features
- It remains rare on the island for a dry Muscat to be vinified with skin contact. Vito Lauria translates the variety’s expressive fragrance into a wine of almost textile grip – the child of an organically farmed high-altitude site that delivers the kind of cool nights otherwise sought in vain across Sicily.
