Colour & Appearance

Fairly transparent garnet red.

Nose

A pronounced, rather masculine opening with distinct Syrah hints of olive tapenade, a touch of cured meat, and dark notes of blackberries as well as siloes. The Grenache contributes nuances of raspberries, liquorice, and cinnamon. Overall, the interplay of aromas presents itself as powerful, balanced, and mature.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is exceptionally juicy. It combines dark fruit and spice with savory tones of fermented cardamom, dried herbs, and a hint of dark tobacco. The tannins are ripe, firm, and structured, underpinned by a clear, cool acidity.

Finish

Culminates in a long, juicy, and slightly bitter finish with a refreshing, cool acid structure.

Terroir & Origin

The roughly 60-year-old vines are planted in the Visan appellation, north of Orange. The three-hectare, very dry plot is heavily influenced by clay and limestone and features a stone content of around 60%. In combination with biodynamic cultivation amid biodiverse nature, this terroir ensures balance even in hot years.

Grape Variety & Vinification

A blend of Grenache and Syrah with a low yield of around 25 hectolitres per hectare. The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation and age for over twelve months in 50-hectolitre Tronçais oak casks.

Food Pairings

Pairs brilliantly with rustic dishes such as braised lamb, wild boar stew with Mediterranean herbs, or char-grilled dark meat.

Particularities

An honest, down-to-earth wine from biodynamic farming that delights through its fine marriage of dark Syrah spice and ripe Grenache fruit, completely devoid of any pretence.
