Wine Description for La Source AOC 2023 by Saint Jean Du Barroux

Character
An authentic southern Rhône blend, embodying the Mediterranean soul of this region. The Cuvée of Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault combines sun-kissed fruit with the characteristic freshness and vibrancy one expects from this classic assemblage. Saint Jean du Barroux, nestled at the foot of Mont Ventoux, stands for artisanal winemaking with respect for terroir.
Terroir & Origin
The village of Saint-Jean-du-Barroux lies within the influence of the southern Rhône, where the Mediterranean climate with its intense sunshine and cooling Mistral wind creates ideal conditions for these traditional grape varieties. The soils of limestone and clay lend the wines structure and minerality, whilst the elevated position provides refreshing acidity – a decisive factor in this warm region.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Grenache typically forms the backbone with its generous red fruit and soft texture. Carignan contributes structure, spice and a certain rustic earthiness, whilst Cinsault brings elegance, floral notes and drinkability. This classic southern Rhône assemblage is proven and timeless. The 2023 vintage benefited from excellent conditions that favoured both freshness and ripeness. The moderate alcohol content of 14% points to balance between concentration and approachability.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to Mediterranean cuisine: ratatouille, grilled vegetables with Provençal herbs, lamb cutlets or herb-grilled chicken. Also an excellent choice with tapenade, spiced stews and aged goat’s cheese. The wine’s freshness harmonises beautifully with tomato-based dishes and Provençal herbs.
