Tasting note

Colour & appearance
Radiant golden yellow with a youthful gleam.
Nose
Juicy aromas of apple, lemon, grapefruit and apricot. With a little air, delicate ginger notes and a hint of aniseed join in – a Riesling that brings immediate pleasure.
Palate
Lively and fresh, with precise acidity and fine salinity. The fruit found on the nose continues onto the palate, carried by just 11.5% alcohol. A wine of remarkable lightness and clarity.
Finish
Clear, saline, with lingering freshness – a Riesling that cleanses the palate and prepares it for the next bite.
Terroir & origin
The grapes grow 80 per cent on Gföhl gneiss, a primary rock, and 20 per cent on gravel and loess; the vines are between 5 and 55 years old, with yields of 40 hectolitres per hectare. Cool air from the Waldviertel flows into the Kamptal from the north, while Pannonian warmth pushes up from the south. Fred Loimer, who took over the estate in 1998, harnesses this diversity with surgical precision.
Grape variety & vinification
Riesling from hand-harvesting between 20 September and 4 October 2025. Whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, ageing on the full lees until early January, then on the fine lees until bottling in mid-April 2026.
Food recommendations
Ideal with dishes featuring citrus notes, grilled fish, Asian cuisine with ginger and lemongrass or simply with fresh goat’s cheese.
Special features
Fred Loimer is a co-founder of respekt-BIODYN, a certification whose guidelines are far stricter than EU organic law and which, alongside biodynamic work in the vineyard, also demands clear quality standards in the cellar. This Riesling demonstrates the result: precision, clarity and a minerality reminiscent of wet limestone. A wine that proves elegance need not be heavy.
