Wine Description for Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 2022 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow in the glass – a colour that already hints at the concentration and maturity of this extraordinary Riesling.
Nose
A delicate masterpiece of aromatics: apple and peach meet chalky minerality, honeydew melon and salty lemon. After air contact – best in a decanter – dried ginger and a hint of anise unfold. The complexity is challenging, refreshing and utterly captivating.
Palate
Pronounced, very dry and of incredible tension. Crystalline salinity and knife-sharp acidity set the salivary glands working immediately. This Riesling seems to glide across the tongue with coolness and finesse – Burgundian in its playfulness, provocative in its elegance. A wine that awakens the desire for another glass with every sip.
Finish
Long, precise and characterised by mineral freshness. The acidity carries the aromas far beyond the final sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos Windsbuhl benefits from its cooler late-ripening climate, which produces elegant and racy Rieslings. In the upper part of the Clos, where the soils are shallow and limestone bedrock lies close to the surface, 32-year-old Pinot Gris vines were grafted with Riesling in 2021 – with impressive results already in the following year.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Harvested as the last Riesling of 2022, the wine fermented very slowly and uninterrupted until summer 2023, completely dry. Aged in large oak cask on fine lees, bottled without fining or filtration.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Porcini mushroom carpaccio with olive oil and lime juice, scallops and langoustines on curry-mango sauce or surprisingly also pulled pork with orange-hoisin marinade. The wine calls for aromatic, not too heavy dishes.
Special Characteristics
A long-distance runner that deserves patience. Those wishing to drink it young should decant it at least a day beforehand and enjoy it not too cold from large Burgundy glasses. With further ageing, this wine will mature into a masterpiece of finesse.
