Colour & Appearance

Pale golden yellow with silvery reflections – a wine that already signals its youthful freshness and energy in the glass.

Nose

Enchantingly fresh and mineralically profound. Lime and apricot form the fruity foundation, supported by wild mint, ginger and citron. Floral notes round off this multifaceted aromatic interplay – an olfactory feast that already hints at the granite-marked origin.

Palate

Striking and precise on the attack. The razor-sharp acidity is perfectly integrated into a silky mid-palate with opulent fruit. Here the mastery of the vintage reveals itself: tension without harshness, structure without dominance. The fine tannins lend additional texture and complexity – unusual for a Riesling, but characteristic of the Schlossberg vineyard site.

Finish

Long, vibrant and marked by minerallic salinity. The acidity remains lively right through to the end, whilst subtle tannins provide grip. A finale that makes you eager for the next sip and underscores the impressive ageing potential of this Grand Cru.

Terroir & Origin

The Schlossberg north of Kaysersberg ranks amongst the steepest and most prestigious Grand Cru vineyard sites in Alsace. Situated between 230 and 350 metres, the terraced vineyards are characterised by granite, graywacke and sandstone. The Thannenkirch granite in the north lends these wines their characteristic minerality and tension – soils that bring Riesling to its finest form.

Food Pairing Recommendations

A magnificent food companion: scallops with citrus butter, turbot with herb crust, sushi and sashimi, goat’s cheese of medium maturity or classically with flammekuchen. The acidity structure and minerality also harmonise superbly with Asian cuisine – such as Thai curry with coconut milk.

Special Characteristics

A Riesling with impressive ageing potential. Those wishing to enjoy it young should use large glasses or a decanter – the wine rewards this with additional complexity. The combination of 13.5% alcohol, precise acidity and fine residual sugar makes it a modern classic of Alsace.
