Wine Description for Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat „Les Longeays“ AOC 2022 by La Soufrandière

Colour & Appearance
Intensely luminous, pale golden yellow – a Chardonnay that radiates energy and vitality from the very first glance.
Nose
This wine practically vibrates with liveliness. An electric bouquet of lemons, mandarins and limes meets mineral notes of stone and lichen. Green and yellow plums join the party – an aromatic complexity that stirs anticipation.
Palate
Juicy and bright-toned, the Les Longeays presents itself with crisp, white-fleshed fruit. The citrus aromas continue, complemented by hints of warm puff pastry. Fine tannins lend structure, whilst a brilliant, demanding acidity – ripe yet extraordinarily lively – builds an impressive tension.
Finish
Long and saline, with persistent freshness. The acidity carries through to the end, leaving an energetic, mineral aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
The 0.54 hectares in the Climat Les Longeays sit at 210 metres altitude in a glorious south-south-east exposure, directly adjacent to the renowned Les Quarts. The iron-rich clay and limestone soil from the Bajocian (Jurassic) imparts the wines‘ characteristic minerality and longevity. Thirty-eight-year-old vines provide depth and concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay, hand-harvested on 27 August 2022. Whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by 17 months of maturation – initially eleven months in Pièces, then in large wooden vats. Complete malolactic fermentation harmonises the acidity. With just 32 mg/l total sulphur and a pH of 3.15, the wine reveals itself precise and unvarnished.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The lively acidity and minerality harmonise beautifully with pear and ricotta ravioli in hazelnut butter cream, grilled corn on the cob with honey-butter marinade or a shrimp burger. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese or pan-fried monkfish.
Special Features
A textbook example of the precise, terroir-focused work of the Bret brothers at La Soufrandière. This Pouilly-Vinzelles combines Burgundian elegance with southern Mâconnais charm – balanced, age-worthy and endowed with impressive energy.
