Wine Description for Mâcon-Igé Climat „En Chanelet“ AOC 2024 by Bret Brothers

Colour & Appearance
Intense, medium gold yellow – a Chardonnay that already announces its substance and maturity in the glass.
Nose
Complex, seductive bouquet with ripe pear, apricot and orange zest. Beneath this blend opulent notes of fresh butter, vanilla and brittle, complemented by subtle hints of leather and café au lait. Delicate floral aromas lend the wine a feminine elegance and intoxicating depth.
Palate
On the palate, the En Chanelet reveals itself as juicy and compact, yet remarkably playful and refined. Its saline, mineral vein runs across the tongue with impressive intensity – a clear sign of this wine’s excellent ageing potential. The balance between fruit fullness and chalky freshness is masterful.
Finish
Sustained and mineral-driven, with a hint of stone fruit and fine spice that lingers long.
Terroir & Origin
The parcel lies in the village of Igé on fertile limestone soil, facing west at 230 metres elevation. The vines, 40 to 80 years old, were harvested on 17 September 2024 – an ideal ripeness point that is reflected in the wine’s aromatic depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, spontaneously fermented in barrique and minimally sulphited. This purist vinification allows the terroir maximum expression and showcases the artisanal philosophy of Bret Brothers: respect for the grape and the place. Only 2,706 bottles were produced.
Food Pairing Recommendations
After adequate aeration, an ideal companion to intense sauces and spice-rich dishes. Perfect with calf’s sweetbreads in morel sauce, pan-fried turbot, Coq au Vin blanc or aged Comté. The mineral structure also pairs well with Asian cuisine featuring ginger and lemongrass.
Special Features
A Climat wine that proves the Mâconnais has more to offer than simple everyday wines. With patience, this Chardonnay rewards with magnificent development – however, those unwilling to wait should give it at least an hour of air.
