Bret Brothers Mâconnais

Bret Brothers Mâconnais is the négociant project of Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret for the appellations of the Mâconnais. The Bret Brothers brand was founded in 2001 to vinify grapes not only from the own vineyards of Domaine La Soufrandière but also from other excellent vineyard sites in the region. The brothers work exclusively with winemakers who practise organic or biodynamic viticulture. This creates characterful Chardonnay wines from appellations such as Mâcon-Villages, Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran – wines of precision and mineral elegance.
More about Bret Brothers Mâconnais
Expanding the Horizon
As a complement to their Domaine La Soufrandière, Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret founded the négociant project Bret Brothers in 2001. Whilst they also vinify Gamay from Beaujolais under this label, Bret Brothers Mâconnais focuses on Chardonnay wines from across the Mâconnais. This expansion allows the brothers to explore and present the terroir mosaic of their home region in all its facets.

Partner Winemakers and Terroirs
The Bret brothers maintain long-standing relationships with winemakers in the finest vineyard sites of the Mâconnais. The grapes come exclusively from organic or biodynamic cultivation. Particularly prized are parcels in Pouilly-Fuissé, the most prestigious appellation of the Mâconnais, in Saint-Véran with its elegant, mineral wines, and in various Mâcon-Villages vineyard sites. The chalky soils with clay inclusions shape the character of all wines.
Vinification and Philosophy
As with all Bret Brothers wines, Bret Brothers Mâconnais follows the same principle: minimal intervention, maximum expression. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in their own cellar in Vinzelles. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, ageing in oak barrels of various sizes and extended lees contact produce wines of complexity and depth. Bottling takes place with little or no filtration.

Style and Character
The Bret Brothers Mâconnais wines combine the freshness and minerality of the Mâconnais with the brothers' artisanal precision. Whether a lively Mâcon-Villages, a complex Pouilly-Fuissé or an elegant Saint-Véran – all wines share the same distinctive signature: purity, expressiveness and authentic terroir character.
In addition to their Mâconnais wines, they run their family winery La Soufrandière as well as the négociant project Bret Brothers for Gamay wines from Beaujolais.
