Wine Description for Langhe Nebbiolo Nebbiolo DOC 2023 by Sottimano

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby red with pomegranate reflections that already announce the elegance of the Nebbiolo grape. Medium intensity, brilliant clarity – a visual harbinger of fine structure.
Nose
Classic Nebbiolo aromatics in youthful freshness: red cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries dominate, accompanied by rose petals, violets and a hint of white pepper. Subtle notes of leather and forest floor hint at ageing potential. The oak note remains discreet in the background – exactly as Andrea Sottimano intends.
Palate
Here the full finesse of the Sottimano house reveals itself: firm tannins, already remarkably polished, meet a vibrant acidity structure. On the palate, sour cherry, cranberry and pomegranate unfold, underpinned by mineral notes and a fine herbal spice. Despite the 14.5% alcohol, the wine never feels heavy, but retains its elegant tension. The texture is silky, almost Burgundian in its restraint.
Finish
Medium to long, with persistent fruit freshness and a fine tannin structure that invites the next sip. A hint of liquorice and dried rose petals lingers.
Terroir & Origin
From the prestigious vineyard sites around Barbaresco in Piedmont, farmed without synthetic chemicals since 1990. The Langhe appellation unites grapes from various parcels of the Sottimano family.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, spontaneously fermented without winemaking additives. Maceration of 12-24 days, spontaneous malolactic fermentation in French barriques. Bottled unfiltered and unfined – it doesn’t get more authentic than this.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with vitello tonnato, veal schnitzel with porcini mushrooms, risotto ai funghi porcini, pasta with truffle or mature Parmigiano Reggiano. Also an excellent choice with duck breast or rosy roasted lamb loin.
Special Features
An accessible entry point into the world of Sottimano Nebbiolos – already enjoyable now, but with potential for 5-8 years of bottle ageing. Authentic craftsmanship without oenological tricks.
