Wine description for La Dulce Quietud 2016-2020 500ml from Quinta de la Quietud

Character
A rare sweet wine speciality from Toro, demonstrating that this region is capable of far more than powerful red wines. With just 9% alcohol and pronounced residual sweetness, this wine presents itself as an elegant, concentrated delicacy. The blend of Verdejo and Malvasía unites the aromatic freshness of one with the honeyed fullness of the other variety into a harmonious whole.
Terroir & Origin
Toro, renowned for its continental extreme climate with hot summers and cold winters, lies on the Castilian plateau beside the Duero. Quinta de la Quietud – the name means „Estate of Silence“ – harnesses the extreme temperature fluctuations and intense sunshine of the region to produce concentrated, sweet wines from white varieties. The barren soils and dry climate ensure naturally low yields and high concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The combination of Verdejo, Castile’s characteristic white variety, with the aromatic Malvasía is unusual for Toro. Verdejo brings its typical herbal spice and citrus freshness, whilst Malvasía provides floral notes and honeyed sweetness. Production as a sweet wine with low alcohol content suggests controlled fermentation, whereby the natural sweetness of the grapes is preserved. The bottling in 500ml bottles underscores its dessert wine status.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A classic companion to blue cheese such as Cabrales or Valdéon from the region. Harmonises beautifully with foie gras, apple or pear tart and almond biscuits. Also a fascinating combination with aged Manchego or goat’s cheese with honey. Served well chilled, equally enjoyable on its own as a meditative closing wine.
