Wine description for Fixin “Champs de Vosger” AOP 2022 by Jérôme Galeyrand

Fixin is often regarded as the rustic sibling of Gevrey-Chambertin – yet in the hands of Jérôme Galeyrand, it becomes a wine of astonishing finesse. A career changer from the Loire, formerly in the cheese trade, he purchased his first plot of just 0.05 hectares in 2002. Today, his domaine in Saint-Philibert cultivates 5.25 hectares in the Côte de Nuits and ranks among the region’s most exciting addresses – awarded one star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France in 2020.

Colour & appearance
Deep ruby red, transparent and brightly luminous in the glass.
Nose
Small red fruits: wild raspberries, delicate strawberries and wild blueberries. Above them float floral top notes of orange blossom and violet lilac. Transparent, light-footed, inviting.
Palate
Silky transparency and filigree fruit. Liquorice and a hint of tarragon emerge, while elegant tannins line the edges of the tongue. Medium-bodied, with a swift flow – a wine that empties the bottle in no time.
Finish
Clean and fruit-driven, with a finely structured echo of red berries and a spicy undertone.
Terroir & origin
The vineyard site Les Champs de Vosger lies below the village of Fixin in the northern Côte de Nuits. Here, Pinot Noir grows on light, sandy soils – a foundation that lends the wine its accessible, silky character.
Grape variety & vinification
Pure Pinot Noir, mostly destemmed, fermented in tank, followed by maturation in 228-litre French oak barrels with only a small proportion of new wood. Galeyrand eschews industrial yeasts, fining agents and enzymes, adding only as much sulphur as necessary – terroir transparency without technological intervention.
Food recommendations
Oven-roasted root vegetables with tarragon butter, catfish on roasted heritage carrots and beetroot with citrus fumet, or short ribs with beetroot. It favours earthy, honest, aromatic dishes.
Special features
A Fixin that demonstrates what is possible in this often underrated appellation: depth and structure combined with effortless drinkability. From a winemaker with no family background in viticulture, who started with twentieths of a hectare – and today produces around 24,000 bottles a year that are highly sought after by connoisseurs.
