Wine information
The Stallion, a prestigious Grand Cru since November 1982, is located in a spectacular setting - a rugged hillside overlooking the southeast in the charming village of Wintzenheim, near the town of Colmar. The soil is unique, an Oligocene-era red limestone rich in iron and containing sandy limestone with calcareous pebbles. Despite a relatively thin surface layer, the clayiness is convincingly drought resistant. Gewürztraminer dominates the plantings here, with the winery owners finding the perfect harmony between the early-maturing variety and the mineral-rich soil conditions. Interestingly, the high phenolic ripeness due to the interaction of climate and soil is also the reason why Hengst is known for its excellent red wine!

Information on the expansion
A magnificent 2021 vintage produced robust grapes from which a powerful, dry Gewürztraminer with impressive acidity was developed.

Color
A deep, brilliant golden yellow that shines in every glass.

Nose
On the nose, the 2021 Gewürztraminer presents lively aromas that enliven the spirit. The scent of sweet grapefruits, rose petals and lily of the valley meets notes of juicy oranges, pungent ginger and spicy cardamom that tempt you to take a first sip.

Palate
On the tongue, the wine is silky and refined, reminiscent of the graceful gallop of a noble horse, yet full of vitality and elegance. The influence of salty minerals, coupled with fruity notes and dry grace, is evident, and the invigorating acidity and fine tannins make it an ideal food companion. This wine asserts itself powerfully, with a lingering finish, bringing a real explosion of flavour. Its salty and energetic structure improves with age, so you can look forward to a wonderful sensory experience. Its amazing value for money makes it even more attractive.
For best enjoyment, I recommend decanting the wine before drinking and serving it from large Burgundy glasses. Opening it a few days in advance will further enhance it.

Food recommendation
Try it with caramelised cherry tomatoes and goat cheese to bring out the fruitiness. A dish of prawns and honey chilli crust, served with spiced rice brings out the spice. Or enjoy it with pork ribs marinated with rosemary and braised rhubarb to complement the bold flavours.
