Wine description for Fuori Serie MMXIX rosso 2019 by Pranzegg

Character
The Fuori Serie MMXIX – „outside the series“ – is an unconventional interpretation of South Tyrol’s traditional grape variety Vernatsch. With just 12% alcohol, this wine embodies a deliberate lightness that reflects the current zeitgeist whilst simultaneously honouring the region’s historical drinking culture. Pranzegg demonstrates here that Vernatsch can be more than an uncomplicated everyday wine – namely a characterful companion with its own distinctive personality.
Terroir & Origin
Pranzegg is located in the Eisack Valley, one of Italy’s northernmost wine regions, where alpine influences meet Mediterranean warmth. The steep hillside vineyards and pronounced day-night temperature variation create ideal conditions for delicate, aromatic red wines. The 2019 vintage was characterised in South Tyrol by moderate temperatures and balanced rainfall – a classic vintage that favours freshness and elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Vernatsch, known internationally as Schiava, is South Tyrol’s traditional red wine variety. Long underestimated, it is currently experiencing a renaissance through winemakers who have recognised its potential for approachable, aromatic red wines. The variety typically brings notes of red berries, violets and almond, paired with soft tannins and vibrant acidity. The low alcohol content points to gentle vinification and deliberate hand-harvesting – a craft-focused approach that prioritises elegance over power.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to regional South Tyrolean cuisine: speck, schlutzkrapfen, sautéed mushrooms or caminwurst. The wine’s lightness harmonises beautifully with grilled vegetables, pasta with tomato sauce or pizza. Also an exciting choice with Asian dishes of moderate spice. Served lightly chilled at 14-16°C, it reveals its full drinking pleasure.
