Wine Description for Caroline 2023 by Pranzegg

Character
An elegant white wine cuvée from the South Tyrolean estate Pranzegg, which with a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol. and dry orientation reflects the alpine freshness of the region. The composition of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier combines aromatic precision with subtle fullness – a contemporary approach that harmoniously brings together the strengths of three different grape varieties.
Terroir & Origin
Pranzegg lies in the heart of South Tyrol, where Mediterranean climate meets alpine influences. The elevated vineyard sites and the pronounced day-night temperature fluctuations provide that freshness and tension which characterise South Tyrolean white wines. The Dolomites in the background shape not only the landscape but also the microclimate – cooling winds preserve the natural acidity and extend the ripening period, which benefits the development of aromas.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The cuvée brings together three characterful grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc contributes aromatic freshness and herbal spice, Chardonnay provides structure and elegant fullness, whilst Viognier adds complexity with floral notes and silky texture. This combination is unusual in South Tyrol and testifies to experimental winemaking artistry. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season that enabled healthy fruit with well-balanced ripeness. The dry style suggests that the focus here is on clear fruit and mineral precision.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion to alpine and Mediterranean cuisine. Pairs excellently with asparagus, pan-fried white fish or seafood. The aromatic complexity also harmonises with goat’s cheese, herb risotto or pasta with herb pesto. The wine’s freshness makes it an ideal aperitif, whilst its structure can also accompany lighter poultry dishes.
