Wine Description for Foam Vulkan Petnat 2025 by Meinklang

Character
A lively Pétillant Naturel from the unconventional hand of Meinklang winery, renowned for its biodynamic approach and experimental signature. The cuvée from the Hungarian grape varieties Hárslevelü and Juhfark is a vinological bridge between Austria and neighbouring Hungary – a refreshing interpretation with fine perlage created through natural bottle fermentation. At 12.5% alcohol and with a dry orientation, this Petnat presents itself as uncomplicated, quaffable and authentic.
Terroir & Origin
Burgenland on the Neusiedl Lake is characterised by Pannonian climate with hot summers and moderate rainfall. Meinklang manages its vineyard sites according to biodynamic principles, often in mixed cultivation with animals and cereals. The proximity to Hungary is reflected not only geographically but also culturally – Hárslevelü and Juhfark are native there and bring an idiosyncratic aromatics with mineral notes and lively acidity to this region.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hárslevelü (Linden Leaf) is known for its floral, spicy notes and is traditionally used in Tokaj. Juhfark (Sheep’s Tail) is considered demanding to cultivate but delivers distinctive acidity and mineral structure. The Méthode Ancestrale – bottling before fermentation is complete – allows the wine to ferment in the bottle, creating natural carbonation. Meinklang’s low-intervention working method means: no fining, no filtration, no added sulphites – pure expression of fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Petnat is an ideal aperitif, but equally suits pan-fried fish, oysters, sushi or light starters. The lively acidity harmonises with goat’s cheese, steamed vegetables or summery salads. Also an exciting choice with Asian cuisine featuring moderate spice.
