Wine description for Epic Perlwein trocken 2025 by Meinklang

Character
A Perlwein of refreshing lightness, combining the aromatic profile of Muskateller with the structure of Grüner Veltliner and the sleek acidity of Welschriesling. With just 10.5 per cent alcohol and a dry style, this is a wine for the early evening, for balmy summer nights, for that moment when day gives way to dusk. The fine bubbles carry fruity notes of elderflower, green apple and citrus with an addictive lightness.
Terroir & Origin
Pamhagen in Burgenland lies at the lowest point in Austria, where the Pannonian Plain meets Lake Neusiedl. Here, in this flat steppe landscape, the Michlits family has run a Demeter-certified farm for generations, weaving viticulture, livestock farming and cereal cultivation into a closed-loop system. Over 300 Angus cattle graze the pastures, their manure fertilises the soils, and cow horns filled with fermented preparations rest in the earth throughout winter. The wines are born from this biodynamic approach, which views the farm as a living organism.
Grape Varieties & Vinification
The cuvée of Muskateller, Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling reflects the classic grape variety palette of Burgenland. Muskateller contributes floral, almost perfumed aromatics, Veltliner adds spicy depth, and Welschriesling brings crisp freshness. In Werner Michlits’s cellar, gravity reigns – no pumps, no rush. The grapes ferment spontaneously, without added sulphur, in egg-shaped concrete vessels whose form allows natural circulation. The result is a Perlwein that tastes every bit as uncomplicated as it was intended to be.
Food Pairings
Perfect as an aperitif at the start of a long evening. It effortlessly accompanies asparagus with hollandaise sauce, pan-fried pike-perch fillets or spring rolls with herbs. Also a delight with light poultry dishes or a tomato and mozzarella salad.
