Wine Description for Faustine Vielles Vignes Rosé VdF 2024 by Abbatucci

Colour & Appearance
Pale onion-skin hue, delicate and transparent – a rosé that demonstrates its heritage from old Sciaccarellu vines not through colour intensity, but through finesse.
Nose
This wine plays skilfully with contrasts: grapefruit and blood orange meet red berries and white peaches. Added to this are rose petals, a hint of white pepper and the characteristically Corsican maquis – that wild herbal spice which gives the island its unmistakable character. This is no inconsequential summer wine, but a rosé with depth.
Palate
On the palate, the true class reveals itself: lively and juicy, yet with a pleasant grip that provides structure. The red berry primary fruit is threaded through with a crisp citrus note, whilst a ripe yet agile acidity provides tension. Fine stony minerality from the granite soil and herbal spice lend the wine a Mediterranean seriousness that far transcends conventional rosés.
Finish
Medium length, fresh and with lingering citrus fruit and herbal spice. The wine leaves a saline aftertaste that demands another sip.
Terroir & Origin
The old Sciaccarellu vines are rooted at approximately 100 metres altitude in granite-dominated soils of Corsica. With only 18 hectares and a meagre yield of 25 hl/ha, concentrated, characterful grapes are produced that authentically reflect the terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sciaccarellu, Corsica’s autochthonous variety par excellence. Hand-harvested in the early morning hours, direct pressing, slow fermentation at 18°C following natural sediment settling. Five months maturation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation, no fining – only light filtration. Pure fruit, pure provenance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This rosé calls for Mediterranean cuisine: grilled red mullet, bouillabaisse, grilled squid, tomato and mozzarella with basil, goat’s cheese, vitello tonnato or saltimbocca. Also an excellent choice with Provençal vegetables and ratatouille.
Special Features
A rosé with soul and substance – Abbatucci proves that Corsican wines are far more than holiday souvenirs.
