  • The Faustine Vieilles Vignes Rosé 2025 by Abbatucci is a single-varietal Sciaccarellu from the Corsican Taravo valley – fresh, structured and far removed from the usual primary-fruit rosé, with a citrus pull, spice and a palpable minerality from the granite soils.
  • 🎨 Colour: Bright, intense coral.
  • 👃 Aroma: Grapefruit and blood orange with zest, redcurrant, peach, apricot and damson – plus a hint of pink pepper, maquis and chalk.
  • 👅 Palate: Linear and crisp: red berry fruit meets lively citrus acidity, pleasant grip and astonishing structure without ever feeling heavy.
  • 🎭 Character: Dry, cool and tightly drawn – a serious gastronomic rosé with drive, whose Corsican origins are clearly evident in its fine spice and saline impression.
  • 🍽️ Food pairing: Grilled sea bream with herbs, beef tartare or a Corsican goat’s cheese with olives and tomatoes.
  • ✨ Special features: From old vines on granitic soils, hand-harvested in the early morning and directly pressed; the biodynamically certified estate (Demeter) of Jean-Charles Abbatucci is regarded as a pioneer of the Corsican wine renaissance using indigenous grape varieties.

Wine description for Faustine Vielles Vignes Rosé IGP 2025 by Abbatucci

Colour & appearance
Luminous coral — intense, clear, with the brilliance of freshly cut gemstones.
Nose
Fresh, fruity and delicately spiced all at once: grapefruit and blood orange with zest, redcurrant, peach, apricot, even a hint of plum. Over this lies a subtle spiciness of pink pepper, maquis and limestone — Corsican garrigue in the glass.
Palate
Straightforward and taut: crisp red berry fruit, carried by acid-driven citrus notes. Alongside this, a pleasant grip and a structure that impresses without ever becoming heavy. A rosé of seriousness and tension — far removed from any primary-fruit terrace wine.
Finish
Vibrant, fresh, with fine minerality and a spicy aftertaste that impatiently calls out for food.
Terroir & origin
The grapes come from various plots across roughly 21 hectares in the Taravo Valley, in the heart of Corsica. The vineyards rest on granitic sandy soils at around 100 to 150 metres above sea level — a subsoil that lends the wines freshness and nerve. Here, Jean-Charles Abbatucci works biodynamically (Demeter-certified), with horse-drawn ploughs, a flock of sheep and herbal preparations; the estate has been the guardian of the island’s indigenous grape varieties for generations.
Grape variety & vinification
Pure Sciaccarellu — Corsica’s noble island grape. Hand-harvested in the early morning, destemmed, direct-pressed. After a day and a half of cold pre-maceration and natural settling, a slow fermentation takes place at 18 °C, followed by five months of ageing in stainless steel. Without malolactic fermentation, unfined, only lightly filtered.
Food recommendations
Its vibrant acidity and delicate spice call for cuisine with character: grilled fish with fennel and lemon, Provençal vegetable tart, Corsican sheep’s cheese, seafood paella or simply anchovies on toasted bread.
Special features
It bears the name of Jean-Charles’ daughter Faustine — and her energy: a rosé with the stature of a red wine and the breath of the maquis, which does not merely adorn a summer’s day but gives it pace.
