Wine Description for Vacqueyras blanc AOC 2023 from d’Ouréa

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, intense golden yellow in the glass – a white wine that announces its southern provenance and maturity visually from the outset.
Nose
Captivating, fragrant bouquet with fresh orange zest and white flowers. Behind this unfolds ripe pears, Cox Orange apples and quinces, underpinned by elegant nuttiness and almond notes. An aromatic complexity that builds tension between Mediterranean fullness and finesse.
Palate
Creamy-elegant and seductively textured. The fruit profile from the nose continues on the palate: kumquat, citrus fruits and a hint of honey meld with savoury spice notes and zests. The subtly deployed oak provides structure without dominating. Balancing between warm southern fruit and fine minerality, this Vacqueyras demonstrates remarkable precision.
Finish
Medium to long, with lingering citrus notes and a refreshing mineral tension that keeps the wine vibrant despite its fullness.
Terroir & Origin
From a tiny 0.3 hectare parcel, planted in 2011, on an east-facing slope. The soils of blue and yellow clay impart the wine’s characteristic structure and minerality – typical of the finest vineyard sites of Vacqueyras.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Cuvée of 80% Clairette and 20% Bourboulenc – two indigenous varieties of the Southern Rhône that harmonise perfectly here. Hand-harvested, whole bunch direct pressing, spontaneous fermentation and six months ageing in concrete tanks preserve the freshness and authenticity of the terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Excellent with grilled monkfish, scallops with saffron sauce, risotto with porcini mushrooms, mature Comté or goat’s cheese. Also an exciting choice with roasted poultry with herbs or Asian dishes with coconut milk.
Special Features
A rare white Vacqueyras from a tiny parcel – authentic, artisanal and vinified without oenological tricks. Adrian Roustan proves that the Southern Rhône can achieve great things with white wines too.
