Wine Description for Vacqueyras rouge „Les Vignes du Parc“ AOC 2023 by d’Ouréa
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium, transparent ruby red – luminous and possessed of a lightness that already hints at the wine’s character.
- Nose
- A distinctive, almost idiosyncratic bouquet: rosehip and tomato paste meet wild strawberry, raspberry and violet flowers. Those who know that Roustan forgoes destemming will immediately understand where this particular fragrance originates – ripe stems and stalks interweave with the fruit to create an aromatic play of rare originality.
- Palate
- On the palate, the wine unfolds even more fragrantly than on the nose. A pronounced rose note dominates, accompanied by a whisper of liquorice. The texture is silky, and the minerality – born from ancient Grenache vines on red clay-limestone and variegated marl – lends the wine a remarkable balance: powerful yet almost slender. Fresh acidity and the natural astringency of the stems provide lively tension through to the final sip.
- Finish
- Long, fresh and mineral-driven – with a lingering echo of flowers and red fruit that underscores the wine’s elegance once more.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes hail from Adrien Roustan’s finest parcels in Vacqueyras: the Hautes Garrigues with red clay-limestone, which imparts finesse and minerality, as well as the Pendants with blue and yellow marl, which contribute power and depth. The vines were planted in 1950 – a treasure of age and rootedness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A cuvée of Grenache (65%), Syrah (20%) and 5% each of Cinsault, Carignan and Mourvèdre. The grapes were deliberately not destemmed, merely crushed and fermented rapidly – a craft decision that gives the wine its distinctive character. Aged in concrete vessels, which preserves the purity and freshness of the fruit.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- An ideal companion to lamb cutlets with Provençal herbs, grilled merguez or a rustic daube provençale. This Vacqueyras also makes an excellent match with goat’s cheese or a charcuterie board.
- Special Features
- Roustan’s decision to forgo destemming and age in concrete makes this Vacqueyras a craft counterpoint to the opulent Southern Rhône school – less oak, more truth, more terroir. A wine for the curious.
