Wine description for Vacqueyras blanc AOC 2021 1500ml Magnum from d’Ouréa
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous straw yellow with lively golden reflections – a wine that already promises energy and tension in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose is a feast of Provençal abundance: ripe pear, quince and juicy Charentais melon form the fruity core, framed by fresh citrus notes of green mandarin and orange blossom. Mediterranean herbal spice joins in – fennel, anise, chervil – along with floral accents of jasmine and box. A bouquet that recalls a Provençal farmers‘ market in high summer.
- Palate
- Here the wine reveals its true character: cool, structured, of striking precision. Rather than the expected fruit richness, bay leaf, wild thyme and olive leaves dominate – garrigue in its purest form. The texture is taut and focused, carried by vibrant acidity and a fine, almost tactile minerality.
- Finish
- Long, saline, remarkably fresh. The saline finish lends the wine a Mediterranean depth that far exceeds its modest origins – a parcel of just under one-third of a hectare. A finish that leaves you wanting more.
- Terroir & Origin
- Domaine d’Ouréa sits at 520 metres elevation in the heart of Vaucluse, with a direct view of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. The name – Greek for the god of mountains – is programme. The parcel for this blanc consists of blue and yellow clay and faces east, which provides freshness and tension.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A cuvée of 80% Clairette and 20% Bourboulenc, hand-harvested and pressed with stems. Fermentation with natural yeasts and six months of ageing exclusively in concrete tanks – no wood, no distraction. Organically farmed since 2012, biodynamically managed since 2020.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with confit rabbit with Provençal herbs, lemon zest and baby artichoke salad, with a ribollita with seafood or a rustic cassoulet of beans and potatoes with summer savory and black olives.
- Special Features
- This wine comes as a 1.5-litre magnum – the ideal ageing format for a white wine with genuine cellaring potential. Adrien Roustan proves that Vacqueyras blanc is no wallflower, but can rank among the great white Rhône wines.
