Wine Description for Vacqueyras blanc AOC 2021 1500ml Magnum from d’Ouréa

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with luminous, vibrant reflections – a visual promise of Mediterranean freshness.
Nose
An olfactory stroll through a Provençal farmers‘ market: fully ripe pears, quinces and Charentais melons meet green mandarins and orange blossom. Spicy accents of fennel, anise and chervil blend with floral notes of jasmine and box into a seductive aromatic mosaic.
Palate
A surprising turn: where the nose promises fruity opulence, the palate impresses with cool discipline. Mediterranean herbal spice of bay leaf, wild thyme and olive leaves dominates – pure garrigue in the glass. The texture is taut and focused, underpinned by mineral precision and a saline backbone that lends this wine tension and length.
Finish
Long-lasting and saline-mineral, with cool elegance and lingering herbal notes. A finale that commands respect.
Terroir & Origin
The tiny 0.30 hectare parcel sits at 520 metres altitude in Vacqueyras with east-facing exposure and views of Mont Ventoux. Soils of blue and yellow clay lend the wine its characteristic structure and mineral depth. Organically farmed since 2012, biodynamically managed since 2020.
Grape Variety & Vinification
80% Clairette, 20% Bourboulenc from vines planted in 2011. Hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and six months ageing in concrete tanks – purist vinification that showcases terroir and grape variety unadorned.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ribollita with seafood, confit rabbit with Provençal herbs and baby artichokes, cassoulet with summer savory and black olives, grilled sea bass with fennel, bouillabaisse or aged goat’s cheese.
Special Features
Rare white Vacqueyras from microscopic production. The magnum bottle promises optimal development. A wine that continues the great tradition of white Rhône wines – structured, complex, worthy of ageing. Adrien Roustan impressively demonstrates that the southern Rhône Valley can deliver world-class quality in white too.
