Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2020 3000ml Double Magnum by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Intense purple-red with vibrant violet reflections – a wine that impressively displays its youth and power visually.
Nose
An intoxicating, ethereal bouquet characterises this modern Bandol: lavender, roses and mint meld with juniper into a Provençal aromatic composition. Beneath lie ripe cherries, plums and blackberries, accentuated by elderberries, blood oranges and a subtle vanilla note. This fragrant composition proves seductively accessible – unusually charming for a Mourvèdre-dominated Bandol.
Palate
After adequate aeration, a true charmer reveals itself: ripe black cherry and crisp plum meet liquorice, cinnamon and vanilla, rounded off by nuances of tonka bean, violet and pepper. Despite marked acidity structure and present tannins, the wine displays remarkable elegance and accessibility. A cool, fresh vein runs through the powerful body, lending it balance.
Finish
Persistent and of fine length, with lingering fruit and spice notes.
Terroir & Origin
The vines thrive in a natural, sea-facing amphitheatre on clay, limestone and chalk soils from the Triassic period. Only the finest, oldest vines at a moderate altitude of 250 metres are selected for this Vin de Garde. Low yields of approximately 30 hl/ha guarantee maximum concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. Following three weeks of fermentation, parcel-by-parcel ageing takes place over 20 months in carefully selected barriques, tonneaux and large wooden casks of varying provenance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Classically with rib eye medium rare with rosemary butter and roasted potatoes, grilled lamb rack with thyme and rosemary or surprisingly harmonious with a wild mushroom ragout with usukuchi shoyu.
Special Features
The impressive double magnum (3 litres) promises optimal ageing conditions for this age-worthy Bandol, which is already seductively accessible now, yet has many years of development ahead.
