Wine description for Marsannay „Les Longeroies“ rouge AOC 2022 by Charlopin Tissier
- Colour & Appearance
- Dense, luminous garnet red with youthful brilliance – a Pinot Noir that visually underscores its origin and young age.
- Nose
- This Marsannay demands patience and air. Initially reductive and lactically closed, it reveals its true potential after decanting: blackcurrant and gunpowder give way to a precise bouquet of wild berries, dark cherries and cranberry. These are joined by lingonberry cream, damp forest floor, crumbly wood and a hint of vanilla – complex and multi-layered.
- Palate
- Juicy and precisely crafted, the wine displays pleasant cool herbaceousness alongside fleshy fruit with subtle extract sweetness. The agile acidity and ripe, medium-grained tannins provide structure and backbone. A blood-young, demanding Pinot Noir with peppery notes and a refreshing, tart character.
- Finish
- Remarkably long with peppery accents and fresh acidity that enlivens the palate and calls for the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the vineyard site Les Longeroies on the Côte de Nuits. The organically farmed vineyards provide concentrated, characterful fruit that reflects the cool elegance of this northern Côte d’Or appellation.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Noir, completely destemmed. Following cool pre-fermentation maceration, spontaneous fermentation takes place. Maturation lasts 18 months in 228-litre barriques (predominantly François Frères) with less than 20% new wood – a restrained oak treatment that allows the fruit to take centre stage.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with veal kidneys with chanterelles, stuffed porcini mushrooms with ham and pork belly or venison fillet with salsify and roasted hazelnuts. The wine pairs excellently with robust flavours and game.
- Special Features
- Of Charlopin Tissier’s three single-vineyard Marsannays, Les Longeroies is the one that requires the most ageing time. A wine for patient connoisseurs that will reveal its full potential in a few years – yet already hints at its class now.
