Wine Description for Cemento Lugana DOC 2024 by Marangona

Colour & Appearance
Golden yellow with amber hints – deeper than any conventional Lugana. The skin contact leaves its signature.
Nose
White peach and apricot dominate, interwoven with sage, mint and white pepper. Beneath that bitter almond, straw and a floral whisper. A bouquet that oscillates between fruit and herb meadow – more complex and wild than the estate’s other Luganas.
Palate
Here’s why Gambero Rosso awarded the Tre Bicchieri: grippy texture from skin contact, present yet refined tannins, behind which lies a freshness that surprises for a wine of this density. Mint, sage, white peach and crushed chalk on the finish. Gambero Rosso spoke of „quintessential freshness and simplicity“ with „floral notes, flavour tension and mineral backbone.“ That’s exactly what it is.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Turbiana from the estate’s oldest parcels: 40–50 year old vines, deeply rooted in calcareous clay. Destemmed, then skin fermentation in unglazed concrete tanks – white wine made with red wine technique. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts. Ten to twelve months on fine lees in concrete, a further six months in bottle. Organically certified.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The texture demands substance: Lake Garda char with herb crust, pan-fried pike-perch, ripe Taleggio or risotto with porcini mushrooms. Can also stand alongside mild Pecorino. Serve slightly warmer: 12–14°C, so the texture unfolds.
Special Features
Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso 2025 (vintage 2022) – the highest accolade, a first for Marangona. Plus 92 points Wine Enthusiast (2020). Screw cap. The name alludes to the concrete tanks that Alessandro deliberately uses instead of wooden barrels.
