Marangona Lugana DOC 2025

A dry, organically produced white wine made from Trebbiano (Turbiana) on the southern shore of Lake Garda: fresh, saline and precise, with ripe stone fruit and vibrant acidity — a highly drinkable expression of the calcareous terroir between Sirmione, Peschiera and Pozzolengo.

In the glass

  1. Colour

Bright, clear lemon yellow in the glass.

  2. Nose

Seductive floral notes of orange blossom and almond, alongside peach, yellow apple and ripe lemon; fine hints of yeast, almond cream and fresh herbs round off the bouquet.

  3. Palate

Juicy and silky with fine pressure, lively ripe acidity and a lightly saline minerality; fresh stone and pome fruit as well as citrus in a creamy texture, becoming increasingly precise and moreish towards the finish.

  4. Character

Clear, precise and extremely drinkable — a Lugana with depth that makes the lake and its clay-limestone soils palpable, calling for another glass.

  5. Pairing

Ideal with grilled freshwater fish, risotto with lemon and herbs, as well as seafood and fresh goat’s cheese.

  6. Notes

From 25-year-old vines on clay and moraine soils interspersed with limestone, spontaneously fermented and aged on the lees for six months; as a certified organic estate, Marangona is one of the few organic producers in the Lugana DOC.

Tasting note

Colour & appearance
Pale lemon yellow, clear and luminous in the glass.
Nose
A highly precise aromatic profile: orange and almond blossom over peach, yellow apple and a hint of ripe lemon. Beneath, fine notes of yeast, almond cream and fresh herbs – an interplay of blossom, fruit and spice.
Palate
Juicy and silky on the attack, then with fine tension and a lively, ripe acidity that builds towards the finish. Stone and pome fruit, some citrus, nestled in a creamy fullness. Precise, clear, slightly salty – dry with moderate alcohol at 12.5%.
Finish
Long and taut, with increasingly present acidity and a saline pull that shapes the final impression.
Terroir & origin
From roughly 25-year-old vines in organically certified vineyards between Sirmione, Peschiera and Pozzolengo on the southern shore of Lake Garda – barely eight hundred metres from the water, in the historic heart of the Lugana DOC. The soils consist of calcareous clay as well as morainic deposits left by former glaciers. The lake acts as a thermal buffer, allowing ripe fruit alongside taut acidity.
Grape variety & vinification
Trebbiano – more precisely Turbiana, the local variant. The destemmed grapes were pressed slowly, the must fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and subsequently aged six months on the lees. Since 2017, the estate has been one of the few certified organic producers in the appellation.
Food recommendations
The saline freshness calls for oven-baked sole or trout, lemon risotto, white fish carpaccio, goat’s cheese or simply spaghetti with sage and butter.
Special features
The cuvée of floral aromatics, almond cream and saline pull shows why Alessandro Cutolo’s Marangona is today among the most distinctive voices of the Lugana – the Tre Bicchieri 2025 awarded to the sibling wine Cemento underlines the estate’s calibre.
