Notes
The whole grapes are crushed by foot and gently pressed; the must ferments spontaneously at relatively cool temperatures. The wine then matures for six months in stainless steel tanks, with a very small portion in new wood. The Pianvecchio 2025 is EU organic certified (certification body IT-BIO-014), and the Tenuta di Carleone estate in Radda in Chianti works according to organic and biodynamic principles.
Tasting note
Character
The Pianvecchio IGT is a Tuscan white wine that unites the power of tradition with the aspiration of artisanal care. Its classification as IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) signals a deliberate freedom – the freedom to speak its own, authentic language beyond strict appellation rules. A wine that celebrates its origin without submitting to it.
Terroir & Origin
The name comes from the farmhouse Pian Vecchio (“old plain”) belonging to Tenuta di Carleone in Radda in Chianti; the Egger family renovated it and planted white grape varieties there. On the hills, a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool nights shapes the ripening of the grapes.
Grape variety & Vinification
A cuvée of white grape varieties whose composition changes from vintage to vintage. The whole grapes are crushed by foot and gently pressed, and the must ferments spontaneously at relatively cool temperatures. The wine then matures for six months in stainless steel tanks, with a very small portion in new wood. The dry style underscores the expressive power of the terroir.
Food recommendations
A versatile companion to the Tuscan table. Ideal with Antipasti di mare, grilled fish or a classic Fritto misto. It also harmonises beautifully with Ribollita or light pasta dishes with herb sauces. Those who enjoy it on its own will find in it a delightful aperitivo – served chilled, with a view over the Tuscan hills.
