Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Monvigliero 2021 by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous cherry red with the characteristic clarity of Nebbiolo – a visual promise of elegance and finesse.
Nose
A captivating aromatic profile of remarkable complexity: floral notes meet ripe cherry and a subtle hint of dark chocolate. The nose develops further with suggestions of orange zest, fresh garden herbs and lemon pith – an aromatic composition that already displays accomplished maturity.
Palate
Here the true greatness of this Barolo reveals itself: impeccably fine, chalky tannins form the backbone of a structure that combines power with playful lightness. The 60% whole-bunch component lends the wine perfect architectural tension. Bright and dark red fruit with a delicate, almost sweet note unfold across an energetic, persistently saline core. The balance is flawless – this Monvigliero unites depth with an almost weightless ease.
Finish
Long, persistent and carried by a vibrant energy that refreshes the palate and invites the next sip. The chalky minerality lingers.
Terroir & Origin
The Monvigliero is considered a Premier Cru of Verduno and ranks among the most prestigious vineyard sites in the Barolo region. At 240 metres elevation in a south/south-westerly aspect, 44-year-old vines thrive on calcareous and clay-rich marl – a terroir that perfectly balances elegance and structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 30 September 2021. Three to four days of cold maceration, 60% whole bunches, 20-day maceration in stainless steel with exclusive submerged cap management. Malolactic fermentation in used barriques, followed by 24 months ageing in large wood – a classical, respectful vinification.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Brasato al Barolo, truffle risotto, Ossobuco alla Milanese, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno cheese. The wine’s elegance also harmonises beautifully with roasted venison loin or duck breast.
Special Characteristics
The 2021 vintage already displays extraordinary accessibility whilst retaining ageing potential. Monvigliero is the only vineyard site at Vietti where the stems fully ripen – a quality hallmark that lends this Barolo its unique structural elegance.
